I'm sorry to have to say (in this particular campaign) that I expect to continue using the Google Chrome Browser regardless, because it opens so fast. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. I do and will also use Firefox and may even be forced to use Internet Explorer 8 in special circumstances. I used to use Roboform an awful lot a year ago when I was hooked on entering online contests. I then used IE or Firefox (not sure), and the speed of using Roboform enabled me enter hundreds of contests per day and to win perhaps a thousand dollars worth of prizes over the months. Ultimately I had a bad experience with having to fight to secure a legitimate win. I got peeved over this and got off the contest addiction for good. I tended to be annoyed afterwards when roboform would popup unexpectedly and remind me of the bad experience with that prize they wanted to take from me. I ended up turning it off and later uninstalling it. It only takes me seconds to fill out most forms, so it isn't a huge issue to me now. In the meantime, when I stumbled upon this thread, I was about to download roboform again and to give it another try to see if it still annoys me as it used to, now while using Chrome. As I aaid before, I ended up using Chrome as default because of its speed opening. There was a period of time when Firefox was taking 30 to 35 seconds to open for me and IE was taking 15 or 20. Some personal computer maintenance have helped both of these browsers a lot They're taking about 5 or 6 seconds each tonight, which is much better than it used to be. When I first discovered Chrome, it opened in around 2 seconds on my system, and switching to it was a no brainer. It still pops up almost instantly on my relatively slow P4 system.

I have had Google Chrome on my machine for 4 months or so. Only just started it up and thought it was okay until It wouldn't allow me a google tool bar or roboform.
It is back on the back burner again don't know if I will ever open it up.

So far I only know that roboform provides a beautiful password generator that can be set to very long passwords (I use 20) that are totally random. You also have a choice of different encryption methods, which I change from time to time. The word is SECURE!

I agree. I really like the Chrome browser but can't use it exclusively since I use Roboform frequently! It's too bad because I think this could become a very popular browser.

I too have gotten stuck on Roboform. I haven't found any other password manager that comes close. I like what I see in the new Chrome browser and, as a google fan, I would love to use it, but it has to support Roboform. Also, ideally, it would work with Mcaffee Site Advisor too!

I'll wait to see....

Agree with vedavis. I have just recently began looking for a password manager/form filler, and it seems that roboform is getting allot of praise. The fact that this website exist is enough argument for me give it a shot. However chrome is my default browser and it is going to remain so, with or without roboform. I hope they get the integration in place with chrome, if they do ill buy it that day. Until that day comes, is there anything out there compatible with chrome that is worth using?

Face the truth, RoboForm developers. Either form an alliance with Google and get this ported, or Google might develop their own. The Google toolbar is already in place. And it will probably be free. Chrome is becoming a favorite of mine and others. As for my alliance, there is no RoboForm in my future without Chrome support. You left that choice out of the poll, I see. However, I would pay for the ability to have Chrome support. So let's get the ball rolling here.

I voted with chrome because it IS my primary browser. I have roboform set to open the links in IE. Its a default IE install. I use this primarily to get my bills paid. Thats it. Any other logins, I check using the EDIT in Roboform, then I type the info. (Usually just my common name and one of a few set passwords I use.) I can't think of any forms that aren't bill, or unemployment related.

I don't really think Google gives a *** about RoboForm, that's one problem. However, on the other hand if the Chrome market will increase to the point where the Roboform developers cannot ignore it anymore, they will find a solution. The thing is that with version 2, Chrome introduced a way to use addons in it and I even saw a framework to develop such scripts for Chrome - maybe there's something they could do in this direction to have Roboform compatible with Chrome. Time will tell.

I think it would be a "no-brainer" for google to fund the dev process for integrating chrome with Roboform given given the benefits they get from intel about users. They've spent far more and gotten far less in return with other projects

At this moment in time I really don't see what the appeal of Chrome is. If it was miles ahead of every other browser in terms of speed then sure there's one thing. But the latest set of results i've seen show that minefield has the faster js engine.

Even if Chrome was slightly faster what else has it got going for it? I could name a list as long as my arm of things I would miss moving from ff to Chrome, and i'm not even taking roboform or speed into account here.

Maybe in a year or two when Chrome matures it might be able to compete a bit but at the moment I just don't see anything there of interest.

Although I voted that I would continue to use Browsers where RoboForm works, there is a limit. If another product like RoboForm comes along that does support Chrome, even if it were not as good as RoboForm, I would be off of RoboForm and onto it in an instant.

I use enough sites where Chrome is noticeably faster that it would be an easy decision. I also prefer the UI to either IE or FireFox.

Hi Broadsword, I'm afraid we don't know more things either. That's the standard message Siber System put since Google Chrome was released, which doesn't say it will not be an integration, but it doesn't say it will be either.

So we're waiting, either from Google to do something or until Roboform gets on this new route - hopefully they'll do. One thing I want to see is when Chrome will have much more extensions and 3rd party publishers will start analyzing that, maybe that's a possibility for RoboForm to be added as an extension.

I agree with all those who have already posted. Chrome is a no no for me without Roboform.

Before I discovered this forum I e-mailed Roboform to find out progress. Their reply was:-

Kate replied (2008/09/27 02:12 pm EST):
Thank you for your message.
We are sorry, but RoboForm cannot integrate with Google Chrome.

Unfortunately, it is not possible due to the browser engine that Google chose, named WebKit.

We will look into possibility of integration.

I'm no expert on these matters but it is either possible or not. The second para says not and the third says maybe

I just voted "would use chrome" but need to explain my vote a little because it isn't exactly true...

I love RoboForm and Google and I would gladly use RoboFom's browser if it had one...

Or use Chrome if it had two important features that I need daily :
- the google toolbar
- RoboForm

Or put it differently : a "remote" password manager and a "remote" bookmark manager, i.e. one single environment which ever PC I use.

I know Google is big brother and in the very near future it will eat us all... But in the meantime I wouldn't mind storing my bookmarks and the associated passwords at one single place, preferably online, so that I don't have to synchronize various PCs with a password or a bookmark file all the time...

Anyway, the way I have things set up now in Maxthon, when I close it the cache gets cleared so I'm incognito in it too. In Chrome is rather annoying how you cannot force it to always start in incognito mode (or have profiles, something).

From reading that thread it does sound like FF doesn't actually have threaded tabs, I must have been thinking about something else they changed with tabs in ff3. I'm sure the idea behind that Maxthon option though is to prevent one crashed tab bringing down the whole browser, which is the same idea behind Chrome.

I don't think this is enabled in Firefox 3 (based on this thread and others similar) and what leads me to this is the fact that when something occurs Firefox crashes entirely.

As for Maxthon, which is my main browser due to some features I couldn't work without, in the (rare) occasions something goes wrong with one of the pages, you can't do much but ctrl+alt+delete it. I have that option to enable multi-thread disabled because I think it consumes less resources if it's disabled (this was the case on an early release of maxthon2, not sure if it's the same now).

Chrome's approach is somehow different because if something goes wrong only one tab crashes (aw snap).

"Another advantage of Chrome is the whole each-tab-as-a-process thing, which lets you "kill" a tab if it became unresponsive, much like using an operating system."

I think this is pretty standard now in a lot of browsers, not something new with Chrome. For instance in Maxthon go to setup center->Advanced->Enable Multi-thread tab support. In firefox I think it's been enabled since version 3, there's no setting to turn it off. Not sure about Opera though but it wouldn't surprise me if it also used different threads/processes for each of its tabs.

Thanks for the article. This is an interesting part:

Mozilla might end up taking some of Chrome's ideas, and perhaps even some of its open-source code, to work into Firefox. Tops on Eich's list: Chrome's running each browser tab as a separate process, an approach designed to prevent a single site, and thus tab, from crashing or locking up the whole browser.

I'm curious about the 3.1 release too. Another advantage of Chrome is the whole each-tab-as-a-process thing, which lets you "kill" a tab if it became unresponsive, much like using an operating system.

Here's an article where it's claimed FF 3.1 javascript engine is around 28% faster than Chromes.

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9114163

Will be interesting to see, based on that article, how FF 3.1 handles pages like Digg compared to Chrome.

Well there's no doubt Firefox and Maxthon can be sluggish sometimes. With regard to sites like Digg that use a lot of javascript this may improve in FF with the next update due soon because it contains a new javascript engine that is supposed to be very fast. Just looking down your list of likes. The Incognito window feature is also coming to FF, I think that may be in the next update as well.

Maybe when Chrome matures a bit more and has some extra functionality (and roboform support) i'll come back and take a look. But right now there's way to much I'd miss such as super drag and drop, mouse gestures and ad blocking which I can't do without.

The ad-blocking issue is an interesting one. Maxthon and FF both have very good ad-blocking capabilities which make surfing a lot more enjoyable. Google's whole business model is based around advertising so blocking ad's would shoot themselves in the foot, maybe they will add selective ad blocking.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Right now the main thing that makes me like it better than FireFox is its speed on handling certain websites (e.g. digg). You can see my opinion on what I like and what I don't in Google Chrome.

I've been using Roboform with Firefox/Maxthon for a while now. I've not had chance to try Chrome yet but you guys seem excited by it. What is it that makes Chrome better than firefox, is it just a performance thing or does it add something extra that the other browsers don't?

I am using Chrome because it is great. Fast, dependable, simple, huge reading space. I am using its internal password manager, but it is pretty insecure. Everytime I go to a new site, I have to call in Roboform because I just do not remember any passwords but one. My digital life would be much much better if Roboform integrated with Chrome. I hope it will integrate!

Hi yegods and welcome to the forums.
"not sure it will do any good... but whatever"

Google/Roboform have marketers on their side, and trust me that searching for feedback is one of their mission too, so any mention of a wanted feature somewhere gets noticed if it is requested by many users. The first thing they ask is if there's market for a certain feature, and where's lots of requests it means there's market.

not sure it will do any good... but whatever. i love roboform, and couldn't live without it. i am interested in Chrome, because Avant and IE are inefficient and consume too much memory, and will not release it, even when a page is closed. Chrome would not have that problem.

I'm on the side of you all, Chrome is my new love but because RoboForm doesn't integrate with it I won't use it "full time". RoboForm is part of my browsing for about 6 years now, I don't even have the courage to count my passcards. Until they'll integrate it into Chrome, I have to stick to my current browsers.

By the way, in another post I've mentioned that a RoboForm for Mac version might be released "as early as next year". I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but the main browser in Mac is Safari, which uses the same kit as Google Chrome, webkit. So if they found a way to integrate RoboForm with Safari, it should be the same for Google Chrome. Still, we're talking about 4-6 months, but it's better than nothing.

I have 135 passcards, 3 identities (two of them have multiple people identified and multiple CC records), 2 safe notes and am a frequent users of the password generator. While I am thrilled at the speed of Chrome, there is no way I can give up Roboform.

I have to jump on the bandwagon here. I love the idea of Chrome, but if they want it to be an everyday browser they need to integrate Roboform. I keep about 120 passwords and sites on my USB key, and it is just easier to use IE/Firefox until intergration is complete. Google needs to address this issue with Roboform and assist them with the integration.

I just tweeted that the biggest problem with Chrome is it's lack of support for Roboform. So for now, I'm trying to use Chrome as much as possible, to kick the tires of it's password manager, but the form filling is still a pain. I've been using the passcard viewer from ie7/roboform for those times when I really need to get a password out, but time will tell.

As a web consultant, I'll check in with Chrome from time to time to see how it works and what's new, so I can advise and inform clients.

I personally will never use a browser that doesn't work with RoboForm. That's why I stopped using Opera. And I will never trust a browser to store my passwords, logins, etc.

Nuff said.

As a long time user of RoboForm, I find it hard to even consider a browser for everytime use if it doesn't allow integration for RoboForm. Google's new browser, Chrome, is fast and tempting, but doesn't (yet?) support RoboForm (as detailed here http://www.password-managers.com/2008/09/roboform-for-google-chrome.html).

If the same thing that happens with Opera and Safari (RoboForm doesn't integrate with them) will happen with Google Chrome too, and RoboForm won't work at all with it, which would you rather give up on using, RoboForm or Google Chrome?
