A former PAID customer

I purchased roboform and used it for about 3 months, I find their customer service terrible and i have lately had several drive problems that made me have to reinstall my OS, I was forced to reactivate roboform a email joke back and forth I gave up ans use LASTPASS, It's FREE and way easier.

I'm sorry to have to say (in this particular campaign) that I expect to continue using the Google Chrome Browser regardless, because it opens so fast. I'd be lying if I said otherwise. I do and will also use Firefox and may even be forced to use Internet Explorer 8 in special circumstances. I used to use Roboform an awful lot a year ago when I was hooked on entering online contests. I then used IE or Firefox (not sure), and the speed of using Roboform enabled me enter hundreds of contests per day and to win perhaps a thousand dollars worth of prizes over the months. Ultimately I had a bad experience with having to fight to secure a legitimate win. I got peeved over this and got off the contest addiction for good. I tended to be annoyed afterwards when roboform would popup unexpectedly and remind me of the bad experience with that prize they wanted to take from me. I ended up turning it off and later uninstalling it. It only takes me seconds to fill out most forms, so it isn't a huge issue to me now. In the meantime, when I stumbled upon this thread, I was about to download roboform again and to give it another try to see if it still annoys me as it used to, now while using Chrome. As I aaid before, I ended up using Chrome as default because of its speed opening. There was a period of time when Firefox was taking 30 to 35 seconds to open for me and IE was taking 15 or 20. Some personal computer maintenance have helped both of these browsers a lot They're taking about 5 or 6 seconds each tonight, which is much better than it used to be. When I first discovered Chrome, it opened in around 2 seconds on my system, and switching to it was a no brainer. It still pops up almost instantly on my relatively slow P4 system.

I'm using Maxthon2 as my main browser, and the integration with RoboForm is flawless. I've seen that they've released now Maxthon 3 (an alpha version), and it's definitely looking much better than version 2, however since it's in alpha no features are enabled and thus no love for RoboForm. If they'd only add a toolbar support, I'd be all over it since I'm not that happy with version 2.

Anyway, if you're a Maxthon user it's worth downloading the version 3 alpha just to give it a short test drive (it installs separatelly).

I have had Google Chrome on my machine for 4 months or so. Only just started it up and thought it was okay until It wouldn't allow me a google tool bar or roboform.
It is back on the back burner again don't know if I will ever open it up.

So far I only know that roboform provides a beautiful password generator that can be set to very long passwords (I use 20) that are totally random. You also have a choice of different encryption methods, which I change from time to time. The word is SECURE!

RoboForm 6.9.95 was released recently (was in holiday, that's why I missed the announcement) the main feature being full support for FireFox 3.5

What's new/changed in RoboForm 6.9.95:

New: Full support for Firefox 3.5, they've added an adapter for it in the RoboForm installer.

New: A new Sync button is in the RoboForm toolbar, controls synchronization with the RoboForm Online server.

Update: Support for Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 is available only by downloading the XPI (it's not available from the installer anymore, to reduce the size of it).

Update: Improve throwing JavaScript events to better fill and submit forms (beats me what it means, probably better fill/submit support in javascript enabled forms).

Fix: Fixed auto-submit issues for several sites (comcast.com and virginiagasprices.com others).

You can get the new versions here: RoboForm 6.9.95 | RoboForm2Go 6.9.95

I too have gotten stuck on Roboform. I haven't found any other password manager that comes close. I like what I see in the new Chrome browser and, as a google fan, I would love to use it, but it has to support Roboform. Also, ideally, it would work with Mcaffee Site Advisor too!

I'll wait to see....

Agree with vedavis. I have just recently began looking for a password manager/form filler, and it seems that roboform is getting allot of praise. The fact that this website exist is enough argument for me give it a shot. However chrome is my default browser and it is going to remain so, with or without roboform. I hope they get the integration in place with chrome, if they do ill buy it that day. Until that day comes, is there anything out there compatible with chrome that is worth using?

Face the truth, RoboForm developers. Either form an alliance with Google and get this ported, or Google might develop their own. The Google toolbar is already in place. And it will probably be free. Chrome is becoming a favorite of mine and others. As for my alliance, there is no RoboForm in my future without Chrome support. You left that choice out of the poll, I see. However, I would pay for the ability to have Chrome support. So let's get the ball rolling here.

I voted with chrome because it IS my primary browser. I have roboform set to open the links in IE. Its a default IE install. I use this primarily to get my bills paid. Thats it. Any other logins, I check using the EDIT in Roboform, then I type the info. (Usually just my common name and one of a few set passwords I use.) I can't think of any forms that aren't bill, or unemployment related.

Welcome to the forum CharlysClasses. The problem is that when I updated bbpress to the latest version the main page reverted to a previous version that's why the Roboform version showed as being .91; now it's corrected. As for the robo-chrome connection, we're all waiting for something, anything.

Wouldn't it be better, though, if your/our home page with the two tabs near the upper right corner did NOT have the verions numbers for Roboform and Chrome? As Roboform lovers, it looks bad that we don't even promote the latest version... I know, it still goes to their same page, but it doesn't make a good argument for loyalty it the numbers aren't current?...
easier to maintain the site if you just offer the updates, and leave off the version numbers, you think?

LOVE my roboform... I really think of it as "my brains" - being ADHD, I REALLY appreciate it!

About the RF/Chrome connection?
case in point:
I went to check my Roboform version and it was 6.9.92
I wrote to let you know the above, and to register for this site (I'm test driving chrome), I had to copy the address, go over to my IE, paste in the address bar... fill out the form so I could save it in my RF, then come back here to keep testing Chrome.
Had to laugh!
I was glad to see this post already started.
God Bless!

I don't really think Google gives a *** about RoboForm, that's one problem. However, on the other hand if the Chrome market will increase to the point where the Roboform developers cannot ignore it anymore, they will find a solution. The thing is that with version 2, Chrome introduced a way to use addons in it and I even saw a framework to develop such scripts for Chrome - maybe there's something they could do in this direction to have Roboform compatible with Chrome. Time will tell.

They've released 6.9.92 yesterday, a bit before Christmas, but no chrome support. It seems they've added an anti-phishing filter which is a good feature, other things seem just fixes. Here are the changes they mention:

Add anti-phishing protection: warn user when filling from passcard whose URL does not match web page.

Fix not showing all matching passcards in SaveForms dialog for multi-frame multi-domain sites.

If user has unprotected passcards check them first in AutoSave, to reduce requests of Master Password.

Use Yandex search engine as default for users with Russian language.

Fix AutoSave not working in some frames with style position:absolute.

Fix Editors doing unnecessary second refresh after the external file change.

Added Firefox 3.1 beta support

You can download it here: Roboform 6.9.92

Well the discount code for halloween is not available anymore, but they have now a promotion that gets you 20% off any product, so if you were planning on buying Roboform Pro you should do it now, or at least until December 26 (2008) when the promotion expires. Here's the promotion: Roboform Pro - 20% off

I think it's a bug. It make a little sense to let only administrators change the Security options, but that should be disallowed on 32bit/64bit too and through both options. However I still don't know why they would need to protect it this way since you can create different user profiles.

Anyway, they also have an enterprise edition and maybe they had requirements for this from other companies, but still seems like a half-feature.

Well its been quiet from Roboform support for a while but today I've received another reply.

"RoboForm starts Options via 'RunAs Admin' command because some options that you can change in RoboForm Options Dialog need administatator privilege."

Now this reply makes a lot more sense to me than the previous replies from them. But there are still some unanswered questions.

If some of the Roboform options requires admin privileges how come it can be opened via the identities.exe command and changes made without the need for admin rights? Maybe there is one or two particular options there do require admin rights that i've not tried yet, but if this is the case why lock the whole options dialog out from standard users. It would make more sense to open the dialog as a standard user, then, if the user makes a change that require admin rights prompt at that point.

Why does windows vista 64bit need admin privs but vista 32bit and Windows XP don't?

I've been recommending Roboform to a few people at work who have purchased it. It's not a problem getting an admin to install it but it is a problem to call an admin whenever you want to alter a setting.

Thanks for sharing what the said. It's probably not worth trying any other workarounds (like forcing your browser to work as a 32-bit app), and maybe they'll fix something. Good thing you don't need to open Options that many times

Opening/Editing passcards/identities and safenotes does not trigger the UAC prompt, only the options window. This is another reason why it seems strange that it's being triggered for the options but nothing else within Roboform. Also why does it get triggered when opening it from Roboform but not from the run windows, shortcuts etc.

I've not heard anything back from Roboform support regarding this in a few days. They said it was because I'm using a 64-bit version of a web browser with 32-bit Roboform, but as you can see i'm not even using a browser when opening the options window and besides I am using a 32-bit copy of Firefox.

No, they haven't released a Linux version of Roboform, nor they have any plans to port it to Linux (they might do it for Macs since there's some money in there, but on Linux it would be free so no marketing reason).

Someone emailed me asking if there's a Roboform for Linux version, so I thought I'd post a workaround here, since I was having thoughts on switching to Ubuntu on my laptop (I don't use it for work). From what I've read it's only possible to use Roboform through a Windows emulator, such as Wine. You can use it via Wine in either Internet Explorer 6 (http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Installation) or in Firefox.

Another solution would be to, well, not use Roboform under Linux but use a replacement. Sxipper is such a program, a firefox addon that can import logins from Roboform and works on Linux.

Did you try to "mute" uac with tweakuac?

Strangely if I run this command directly it opens up the RF options without the UAC prompt

Does the UAC prompt also shows when opening the Edit Passcards/Identities through Start-Programs-AI Roboform? I was thinking that in the Start menu you actually have shortcuts and you could replace the Edit Identities one with the link with params that you said it doesn't trigger UAC, but this would mean you'll have to go through Start... to open it.

I also use a type-and-open sort of program called enso launch, http://www.humanized.com/enso/launcher/ (free), which lets you type characters and have a program opened, so if you feel it comfortable to type identities and have your custom shortcut opened, might be something useful. However, these solutions are way off base, so maybe the Roboform support team would provide a solution (or a fix).

Hi Claudiu, yes it seems that the identities.exe with an extra switch opens the roboform options. The exact command is “C:\Program Files (x86)\AI RoboForm\Identities.exe -op pw=0 as=0”.

Strangely if I run this command directly it opens up the RF options without the UAC prompt, it's only when I try and open the options via the Roboform icon (either in the browser or system tray) that I get this annoying prompt.

I've been in contact with Roboform support but so far their replies haven't helped.

- Run the "Set correct file permissions" option.
Which has nothing to do with this problem.

- Run a 32-bit version of the web browser.
I already run a 32-bit version of Firefox so this doesn't help. In fact I only open RF options via the system tray not a web browser.

For me this is just an annoyance but it also means that people who user standard windows accounts will no longer be able to open RF options without the help of an administrator on 64-bit systems.

Claudiu, I didn't know you get turn off UAC for specific processes. I'll take a look at your link and see if it helps.

The process for the taskbaricon is robotaskbaricon.exe, and the ones for the options is identities.exe
I think a solution would be to try adding these processes as exceptions in the UAC list (I don't have vista 64 to test this, but you might give it a try). This guy here explains how to add a specific program to the exception list: How to disable the User Account Control Prompt for a certain application only

Now, if that doesn't work, another solution would be to tweak UAC to be silent (just like you would mute a barking dog, the dog still protects you just you don't hear it) using TwearkUAC from Winability: TweakUAC for Windows Vista

Let us know if any of these options worked. Thanks!

I've been using Vista x32 with Roboform for a while now. I run under a standard user account with UAC turned on. Today I changed my system over to Vista x64 and the account I'm using is an admin account, again I have UAC turned on. The problem I have is that since changing over to vista x64 every time I go into Roboform options (click icon in system tray and select options) I get an annoying UAC prompt telling me a program needs my permission to continue and I have to click continue to get into the options dialogue.

This is very annoying and I don't understand why UAC is prompting now but when running Vista x32 with UAC turned on I never got bothered. I'm not going to turn UAC off so thought I'd run it by you guys to see if you can offer any suggestions on how I can go straight into the options without UAC bothering me. Cheers.

At this moment in time I really don't see what the appeal of Chrome is. If it was miles ahead of every other browser in terms of speed then sure there's one thing. But the latest set of results i've seen show that minefield has the faster js engine.

Even if Chrome was slightly faster what else has it got going for it? I could name a list as long as my arm of things I would miss moving from ff to Chrome, and i'm not even taking roboform or speed into account here.

Maybe in a year or two when Chrome matures it might be able to compete a bit but at the moment I just don't see anything there of interest.

Although I voted that I would continue to use Browsers where RoboForm works, there is a limit. If another product like RoboForm comes along that does support Chrome, even if it were not as good as RoboForm, I would be off of RoboForm and onto it in an instant.

I use enough sites where Chrome is noticeably faster that it would be an easy decision. I also prefer the UI to either IE or FireFox.

Roboform offers a 20% limited discount if you upgrade to Roboform pro by the end of the Halloween. The discount code is TREAT (hinting to trick-or-treat, wonder why they wouldn't use TRICK as discount code ... guess it sounded tricky). Anyway, if you haven't yet upgraded, click on the image to get the discount:

This discount code is not something new, there are other codes available as I've mentioned in this blog post: Roboform discount code.

Hi Broadsword, I'm afraid we don't know more things either. That's the standard message Siber System put since Google Chrome was released, which doesn't say it will not be an integration, but it doesn't say it will be either.

So we're waiting, either from Google to do something or until Roboform gets on this new route - hopefully they'll do. One thing I want to see is when Chrome will have much more extensions and 3rd party publishers will start analyzing that, maybe that's a possibility for RoboForm to be added as an extension.

Thank you for your message.
We are sorry, but RoboForm cannot integrate with Google Chrome.

Unfortunately, it is not possible due to the browser engine that Google chose, named WebKit.

I just voted "would use chrome" but need to explain my vote a little because it isn't exactly true...

I love RoboForm and Google and I would gladly use RoboFom's browser if it had one...

Or use Chrome if it had two important features that I need daily :
- the google toolbar
- RoboForm

Or put it differently : a "remote" password manager and a "remote" bookmark manager, i.e. one single environment which ever PC I use.

I know Google is big brother and in the very near future it will eat us all... But in the meantime I wouldn't mind storing my bookmarks and the associated passwords at one single place, preferably online, so that I don't have to synchronize various PCs with a password or a bookmark file all the time...

From their FAQ:

Q: If I upgrade to the new version of RoboForm, do I have to pay again for RoboForm Pro?
A: So far we did not charge for upgrades. Just install the new version over the old version. However, if you upgrade from ver 5 to ver 6, you will lose Pro status and you will have to activate RoboForm Pro again, but you do not have to buy it again

So it seems that the upgrade until now was free, but I strongly doubt version 7 will be free for RoboForm 6.x Pro users. Just my 2 cents.

Actually that _gsdata_ folder only shows up if you have GoodSync installed and you are (or have used) the Sync RoboForm data option, it's a folder where GoodSync stores some configuration information.

Profiles would be very good, one "ordinary browsing" profile, one "invisible" etc. Of course you should be able to create new ones easily and all options will be saved to it's profile folder.

I mentioned above about FF getting it's own privacy/icognito/porn mode as well, here's a link about it

I use the incognito mode only to browse for gifts (scout's honor).
Anyway, the way I have things set up now in Maxthon, when I close it the cache gets cleared so I'm incognito in it too. In Chrome is rather annoying how you cannot force it to always start in incognito mode (or have profiles, something).

From reading that thread it does sound like FF doesn't actually have threaded tabs, I must have been thinking about something else they changed with tabs in ff3. I'm sure the idea behind that Maxthon option though is to prevent one crashed tab bringing down the whole browser, which is the same idea behind Chrome.

Thanks for the detailed answer, see what you mean now. I don't have more than 5-6 custom fields per identity, so that's not a big problem for me :). I'm thinking that a good approach for the new version might be to pull out the Custom Fields as a separate entity (so you would have passcards, safenotes, identities and custom fields). This way they could be organized in folders and not necessarily tide up to an identity/passcard.

Anyway, did they hint on any other features that we might expect in version 7 (I had no luck in having them tell me any)?

I don't think this is enabled in Firefox 3 (based on this thread and others similar) and what leads me to this is the fact that when something occurs Firefox crashes entirely.

As for Maxthon, which is my main browser due to some features I couldn't work without, in the (rare) occasions something goes wrong with one of the pages, you can't do much but ctrl+alt+delete it. I have that option to enable multi-thread disabled because I think it consumes less resources if it's disabled (this was the case on an early release of maxthon2, not sure if it's the same now).

Chrome's approach is somehow different because if something goes wrong only one tab crashes (aw snap).

Actually I am talking about custom fields in the identity.

I fill out a lot of forms on the internet which is one of the reasons for me purchasing roboform. For instance when I want car/house insurance I can go to a number of insurers web pages and fill in long forms and they'll give me a quote. These forms basically ask for the same information but vary slightly on what they call their fields. To help me fill these forms in with great speed I use roboform and have added all the extra information these forms ask for into custom fields. A few example for car insurance are car registration, annual mileage, where my car kept at night, etc. I must have a dozen fields or so just for car insurance, then I have fields for other forms I fill out as well.

I've got to the stage now where Roboform fills in 99% of the forms ok but occasionally i'll come across a field it misses and I have to go back into custom fields and add it for the next time. The problem is that all my custom fields are all mixed up so it's hard to see what i've added for each category, house insurance, car insurance etc. So i've requested that Roboform gets the ability to add folders or tabs to the custom fields so that I can organise them all into the right categories.

This would help a lot when I need to update an item of information, for instance my car number plate, because I might have two or three different custom fields for one item of information. At the moment I have to look through the whole list to try and catch them all. If I could sort the fields into folders I could just look under car/car insurance and all the number place fields would be in one place.

I got a message back saying they would consider it for version 7.

"Another advantage of Chrome is the whole each-tab-as-a-process thing, which lets you "kill" a tab if it became unresponsive, much like using an operating system."

I think this is pretty standard now in a lot of browsers, not something new with Chrome. For instance in Maxthon go to setup center->Advanced->Enable Multi-thread tab support. In firefox I think it's been enabled since version 3, there's no setting to turn it off. Not sure about Opera though but it wouldn't surprise me if it also used different threads/processes for each of its tabs.

Thanks for the article. This is an interesting part:

Mozilla might end up taking some of Chrome's ideas, and perhaps even some of its open-source code, to work into Firefox. Tops on Eich's list: Chrome's running each browser tab as a separate process, an approach designed to prevent a single site, and thus tab, from crashing or locking up the whole browser.

I'm curious about the 3.1 release too. Another advantage of Chrome is the whole each-tab-as-a-process thing, which lets you "kill" a tab if it became unresponsive, much like using an operating system.

I assume you're talking about custom fields in Passcards, not those in Identities? I don't work that much with them, from time to time I add a custom field in the Identity but I don't use that much those in Passcards. It's puzzling to me for what you use that many custom fields, and I'm asking because I don't want to miss a feature that might be great and I don't know that much about it.

Here's an article where it's claimed FF 3.1 javascript engine is around 28% faster than Chromes.

http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9114163

Will be interesting to see, based on that article, how FF 3.1 handles pages like Digg compared to Chrome.

I really hope they take a look at custom fields in RF7. Over the years i've created quite a lot of them and I feel the current way of handling them isn't very good. By this I mean all the fields are are in one massive list so it's very hard to organise and work with them. Ideally i'd like a way to organise them into folders or tabs based on the information they hold.

I've mentioned this to them a couple of times and they have said it's something they will consider.

Well there's no doubt Firefox and Maxthon can be sluggish sometimes. With regard to sites like Digg that use a lot of javascript this may improve in FF with the next update due soon because it contains a new javascript engine that is supposed to be very fast. Just looking down your list of likes. The Incognito window feature is also coming to FF, I think that may be in the next update as well.

Maybe when Chrome matures a bit more and has some extra functionality (and roboform support) i'll come back and take a look. But right now there's way to much I'd miss such as super drag and drop, mouse gestures and ad blocking which I can't do without.

The ad-blocking issue is an interesting one. Maxthon and FF both have very good ad-blocking capabilities which make surfing a lot more enjoyable. Google's whole business model is based around advertising so blocking ad's would shoot themselves in the foot, maybe they will add selective ad blocking.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Right now the main thing that makes me like it better than FireFox is its speed on handling certain websites (e.g. digg).

Nothing official regarding RoboForm 7, but I do feel that is coming too. I mean they're now at 6.9.90 and the latest major version was released in September 2004. Plus, I've seen in a reply an official from Siber gave to CNET (http://www.roboformchrome.com/topic/roboform-for-mac-released-in-2009) that it's possible to release a RoboForm for Mac version early next year - it might be the moment they release version 7 too.

I know that lately they've been working more on releasing the RoboForm Enterprise version, because let's face it, it's much more money in the enterprise licensing environment. Now that it's released for a couple of months, maybe they'll focus on us, the small but many home users.
